He is survived by: his wife Gale Azevedo Payton; his children, Teresa Payton Weeke (Alan) and James Payton, Jr. (Paula Rorie); his grandchildren, David Weeke, Ava Weeke (Spencer), Jacqueline Weeke Rosenberg (Jason), James Payton III (Joanna) and Jordan Payton (Kylie); his great grandchildren, Giannina Rosario Allen, Noval Love Allen and Judah Payton; his nephew Dennis Rowe; and his niece Cindy Rowe Totten. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
