He was predeceased by: his parents, John R. Hopkins and Avy Hopkins (Barnett); his son Charles Hopkins; and his grandson Travis Murphy. He is survived by: his daughters, Geraldine Murphy of Kansas City, Marlene Dade of Kansas City and Darlene Hopkins-Lillard of Louisburg; and his siblings, Frank Hopkins of Hartville, Jerry Hopkins of San Antonio, Robert Hopkins of Decatur, Sherry Harrell of Springfield, Jo Ann Clark of Eudora, Judy Adamson of Mountain Grove and Fern Filley of Mountain Grove. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
