He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugh F. Smith and Naomi Banister Smith; his wife Patricia Ann Virciglio; and his brothers, Robert and Frederick Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Heather Ann Strange (Keith) of Montgomery City, MO, Rebecca Hilario (Ronnie) of Riverside, CA and James Smith, Jr. of St. Ann, MO; and his sister Jo Anne McGee (Charles). He is also survived by nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
