He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry William Smith and Flossie Ellen Riley Smith; his daughter Jo Anne Smith White; his wife Jeanne Marie; and his sisters, Haroldean Flaspohler Gorman and Harriett Graham.
He is survived by: his children, Jennifer, William P, Jr. (Rochelle), Janet Painter (John), Jeffrey Smith (Tina), Mary Smith and Thomas Smith (Barb); and his grandchildren, Jessica Peters, Erin Parsons, Adrian Painter, Kiaran Cortez-Crockett, Kevin Spalding, Stephanie Brown, Summer White Hatch, Billy Ray White, Ashley Klusmeyer, Amelia Sprague, William Preston Smith III, Jeremy Hays Smith, Josh Berry, Kami Tabor, Jeremy Beaver, Kirsti Beaver, Kari Beaver, Kayla Holland Orell, Gabriella Holland, Jonathan Smith and Abbigail Smith. He is also survived by 35 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
