He was predeceased by: his parents, Archie Brooks and Mildred Brooks (Mallory); his brother David Brooks; his parents-in-law, Elwood Holohan, Marjorie Holohan Garnett and Don Garnett; and his brother-in-law Keith Holohan.

He is survived by: his wife Carol Ann Holohan; his daughters, Lori Lawrence of Moberly, MO, Shari Pretz (Jack) of Moberly, MO and Vicki White of Kansas City, MO.; his grandchildren, Destiny Koch (Matt), Tiffany Clevenger (Stephen), Jessica Hegstrom (Rob), Brett White (Whitney), Allison Bozarth (Matt), Grayden Pretz (Amber), Bridger Pretz and Caiden Smith (Jacob); his great grandchildren, Riece Clevenger, Skylar Goodman, Rowan Hegstrom, Addison, Amelia, Everly White, Fletcher Smith, Gavin, Landon Koch, Baylor and Knox Pretz; his siblings-in-law, Shirley Briscoe (Brooks), Beverly Holohan, Joy Benton (Holohan) and Dennis Benton; and his aunt Elsie Mallory.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials can be made to: The Jim Brooks Championship Sports Memorial Scholarship Fund, or Moberly First Baptist Church or the Shriners Crippled Chileans Hospital.
