He was predeceased by: his parents, Grant Bates and Katheryn Bates (Welch); his daughters, Deanna Bates and Beverly Bates; and his brother Gary Bates.
He is survived by: his wife Veleta Bates of Mexico; his children, Stacey Burrow (Doug) of Mexico, Connie Bates of Kansas City, Justin Bates (Jessica Winn) of Mexico and Steven Bates of Nebraska; his siblings, Stephen Prickett of Rhode Island, Elaine Rosenberger of Parsons, KS and Ester Hoffman of Iowa; and his grandchildren, Dylan Burrow, Katie Burrow, Hunter Bates and Roseanne Winn.
