He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacqueline Christensen (Day) and Thomas Gordon Steffen Christensen; his brother Andrew Henning Christensen (New York City); his stepsister Sara Jay; his stepfather John Jay (Minneapolis); and his parent-in-law Columbia.

He is survived by: his wife Alice; his children, Charlotte Ruth Christensen Bowcutt (Christopher Nelson Bowcutt), Simon Gordon Bowcutt and Janara Maria Christensen (Gregory John Valiant); his stepmother Andrea Christensen; his sister Lise Marie King (Jeff); his stepbrother Michael Jay (Colleen); his brother Timothy Thomas Christensen (Liza); and his stepbrothers, Hans Tor Christensen (Alison) and Kel Ward Christensen (Bella).

Memorial donations may be made in Gordon's name to Calvary Episcopal Church, Grinnell College, or the University of Missouri, Division of Infectious Diseases.
