He was predeceased by: his parents, Gilmer Junior and Doris Lucille Stark Johnston; and his great-nephew Evan Johnston. He is survived by: his children, William Christopher Johnston (Kim) of Lewistown, Diana DeMoss (Sam) of La Grange, MO and Dustin Johnston of Palmyra, MO; his stepmother Donna Johnston of Maywood; his grandchildren, Lauren Johnston, Addie Johnston, Steven Johnston, Cody Gower (Karlie Watt), Dallas Wilkey (Gage), Brady Wilkey, Kayla Johnston, Madison Johnston and Alexandria Johnston; his stepgrandchildren, Samantha DeMoss and Joseph DeMoss; his great grandchildren, Colson Gower and Nova DeMoss; his brother Danny Johnston (Jennie) of Maywood; his stepsiblings, Bill Wagner (Dawn) of Maywood and Gina Heinecke (Kenneth) of LaPraire, IL; and his uncles, Glen Schroder of La Grange and Larry Schroder of Maywood. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be made to his daughter, Diana DeMoss to help defray final cost.
