He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Nelsen and Florance Nelsen (Hamm); and his brothers, Norris Nelsen, Glenn Nelsen, Earl Nelsen and Jerry Nelsen.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Nelsen (Heick); his children, Amy Novak, Christie Zimmerman, Carl Heick and Tim Heick; and his sister Clara Wiesler of Yankton, SD. He is also survived by three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
