He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence C. Butler and May Moore Butler Bouling; his former wife Mary Logan; his wife Joyce Kennedy Dawes; his son Thomas L. Butler Jr.; his siblings, Bessie Mae Stratton and Delno Mullin; his stepfather Charles Bouling; and his half-sister Laura Isabel Unroe.
He is survived by: his daughters, Jane Ellen "Jebby" Vardiman (Chuck) of Fair Grove, MO and Niki Butler Surber of Marshall; his grandchildren, Jennifer Earthly, Olivia Butler and Thomas Patrick Butler; and his great grandchild E. J. Earthly. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Light House Shelter or Marshall Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
