He was predeceased by: his parents, Newman Thompson Sr. and Cynda Sootawakey Thompson; and his siblings, Emanuel, Henry, Russell, Daniel, Newman Jr., Ethel and Bessie.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Edwards; his sisters, Etta and Sarah; his children, Andrea Franco (Manuel), Rodney Thompson (DeLaura), Dyron, Michaelynn, Michelle, Derek and OJ; and his grandchildren, Natasha Mathis (Scott), Taleah Hernandez, Keilani Franco, Jamond Hernandez, Aiden Franco, William and Joseph Thompson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
