He was predeceased by: his parents, Huston Homer Pointer and Katie Margaret Waters Pointer; his wife Carol Ann Duncan; his stepmother Edna Pointer; and his siblings, Homer, Henry, Joe, Bill, Roy, John, Ted Pointer, Frank Bentley and Margaret Farnell.
He is survived by: his children, Kelly Ann Hummel (John Jr.) of O'Fallon and James K. "Kenny" Pointer Jr. of Marshall; his grandson John Hummel, III (Regan) of New York, NY; and his siblings, Lloyd Bentley (Rosie) of Marshall and Frances Davis (Bill) of Marshall. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to New Salem Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.
