He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold J. Thompson and Kathryn Jacoby Thompson Mitchener; his sister Barbara Jane Thompson; and his stepfather Murrel Mitchener. He is survived by: his wife Mary F. Fischer; his children, Jeff Thompson (Jennifer) of Marshall, Mitch Thompson (Tracy) of Marshall and Suzann Lynch (Patrick) of Overland Park, KS; and his grandchildren, Morgan, Ross, Trafton, Ledger Thompson, Lucy and Darby Lynch.
