He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Berhorst and Clara Berhorst (Otto); his wife Georgia Viet; his grandson Travis Coots; and his siblings, Leoba Mengwasser and James Berhorst.
He is survived by: his children, John Berhorst, Jr. (Rosemary) of Centertown, Gary Berhorst (Dawn) of Linn, Mike Berhorst of Linn, Mark Berhorst (Angie) of Linn, Russell Berhorst (Connie) of Jefferson City, Sharon Nilges (Terry) of Linn and Linda Stieferman (Scott) of Linn; and his siblings, Robert Berhorst (Judy) of Russellville, Richard Berhorst of Linn, Ronald Berhorst (Brenda) of Holts Summit, Leona Mengwasser of Jefferson City, Mary Ann Mulpas (Charles) of Buckner, IL, Betty Gentges (Steve) of Linn and Pat Knapheide of St. Martins. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
