Melvin Roy Givens was born on December 4, 1955, in Salem, Missouri, to Melvin L. and Louise (Walker) Givens. He grew up in Jadwin and graduated with the class of 1973 from Salem High School. On May 10, 1974, Roy entered the United States AirForce and served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge. During his time in the military, Roy earned several decorations, medals, badges, and awards. Roy was blessed with three sons: Joseph, Jacob, and Charles.
He was united in marriage to Julie Ann and to this union blessed to gain two children: Franklin and Valerie. Roy and Julie Ann shared many wonderful years together before her passing. Roy worked as a laborer in the Oklahoma oil fields for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting deer and turkey, and going fishing. Roy had a love for children and provided foster care for many years in his home. He valued spending time with his family and making memories with them.
Roy departed this life on December 1st, 2023, in Licking, Missouri, at the age of sixty-seven years. He leaves behind to treasure his memory; his sons: Joseph, Jacob, and Charles Givens; stepson: Franklin Smith; sister: Sheila Halbrook and husband Bob; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding him in death, wife: Julie Ann Givens; stepdaughter: Valerie; parents: Melvin and Louise Givens; and his brother: Stanley Givens. Roy will forever be missed by those who loved him most.

A burial was held on Monday, December 4th 2023 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the 413 S Oak St (413 South Oak Street, Rolla, Missouri 65401).
