He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Williams and Mary Elizabeth Shear (Miller); and his siblings, Linda Shear, Loretta Barrett and Teddy Shear.

He is survived by: his siblings, Gary Shear (Vivian) of Quincy, Brenda De Bow of Cedar Rapids, Diana Shear of Lewistown and Donna Boling of Durham. He is also survived by several nieces & nephews.
