He was predeceased by: his parents, James E. Powell of Brenham and Nina Sebastian of Lemay; and his sister Blondell Schmaltz of Mehlville, Missouri.. He is survived by: his wife Bonnie of Lee's Summit; and his children, David (Teresa) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Steve (Judy) of The Woodlands, Texas and Susan (Sam Myers) of Raymore. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
