Jerry Lee Sweet Obituary

Jerry Lee Sweet, 91, of Lawson, completed his work on Earth, December 17, 2021. Jerry was born to Charles Perry Sweet and Carrie Mae (Jensen) Sweet.

Jerry married Betty Jane Bowers of Fremont, NE, August 20, 1950. They were blessed with three children, James (Janice) Sweet, Kimberly (Kevin) Kitsmiller and Carmen (Dale) Coble, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Francis Perry Sweet, Charles Pershing Sweet and Roland Glenn Sweet.

Jerry left the farm at a young age to work construction. Dam, highway and pipeline projects all over the United States. He touched many lives in his travels.

Jerry was a member of the Lafayette Masonic Lodge #16 and a Gold Card member of the Operating Engineers Local 101.

He loved running his bulldozer and excavator on his projects and above all he loved his family. If you ever met him and shook his hand, you never forgot him. He was a strong, caring and humble man dedicated to his family.

Services will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Lawson Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m., services to follow. Graveside services will be held at the Masonic Cemetery in Excelsior Springs following the services.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Heart Association or the charity of your choice.

Gary Hemenway wrote a sympathy message

“Betty, Jim, Kim, and Carmen I was so sorry to learn that Jerry had died. He leaves a big, empty space in this world. Even though I didn’t get to know him as well as I would have liked, I knew he was very special. I appreciated his hospitality and his kind interest in us when we attended your anniversary party years ago. Certainly we won’t forget him: how much more so our Heavenly Father will not! (Job 14:14,15) Your cousin, Gail (Akerlund) Hemenway, Olathe”
