Chandra Shekar Obituary
Dr. Chandra M.R. Shekar, devoted husband, adoring father, and dedicated physician passed peacefully at home on April 6th 2024. He is survived by his wife, Meera, and their four daughters, Dr. Beena Green (Daniel John), Amelia, Suman, Aparna (Cameron Kell) and three grandchildren, Ashoka, Kareena, and Ambrose.
Shekar, as he was known to his family, was born in Bangalore, India, in 1951, the son of M.N. Ramaswamy and Lakshmi Devi and brother to Leelavathi (Ramanna) and Ravishankar. He graduated from Mysore Medical College, where he was captain of his basketball team; he moved to the US in 1977, where he was a physician in the US Army. He worked in D.C, West Virginia, Virginia, California, and happily settled with his family in Kirkwood, Missouri, which he considered his favorite hometown after Mysore, India.
Shekar and Meera cared for patients at their medical practice in Kirkwood with great love and generosity for the last 32 years.
Beyond enjoying time with his family, Shekar, always with an irreverent sense of humor and warming smile, was a man of many interests. He loved listening to birds singing, taking care of his green lawn, listening to music, his electronic gadgets, India's cricket team, Dr. J and Larry Bird, an edge-of your seat football game (no overtime), Raj Kapoor and Harrison Ford movies, a tiny piece of chocolate with his coffee, Meera's cooking, and hugs from his daughters and grandchildren. His family and patients will miss his big heart, calming presence and healing hands.
All are welcome to a celebration of Shekar's life planned for Saturday, April 13th 2024 at 2pm at Oak Knoll Park's Pavilion in Clayton, MO (any attire welcome, but Shekar always liked casual and brightly colored clothing).
In lieu of flowers, kind words and sweet memories would be greatly appreciated.
