He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, William D. Mercer and Marie Mercer (Herron); his wife Bess Rose Appling; his daughter Janis; his son-in-law Jim McManus; and his nieces, Marily Sampson, D. O., Nancy Barch and Sally Rockford. He was also cherished by great grand-nephews and niece.
