She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Smothers and Mary Smothers (Lyberger); and her husband Wayne Barnes. She is survived by: her daughters, Carol (David McCarthy) and Dorothy Bass of Wisconsin; and her boyfriend Jack Wood. She is also survived by four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren.

She also enjoyed being a volunteer for RSVP and was a member of the Methodist Church of Kirksville.
