He was predeceased by: his parents, Ezra Groves and Chloey Groves (Snowden); and his brothers, Ronnie and Billy. He is survived by: his wife Jeri Groves; his children, Don (Christy Groves), Carl (Tracey Groves) and Melissa (Scott Weatherman); his grandchildren, Jon, Cara of Ozark, Tiffany Groves, Corey Holker of Springfield, Haley Groves, Tyler Groves, Hannah Groves, Allison Groves, Cameron and Cooper Weatherman; his stepgranddaughters, Candyce and Krysten Weatherman of Springfield; his great grandchildren, Callee, Ella, Mallery Groves and Alex Holker; and his brother Robert Groves of Kansas City.
