He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl C. Avants and June Hurley Avants; his siblings, Clifford C. Avants, Linda Foster and Bonita McNabb; his grandchildren, Charles Caleb Avants and Haley Renee Avants; and his great grandchild Junie Rae Hooper.

He is survived by: his wife Donna Avants of Kennett, Missouri.; his children, Jason N. Avants (Sherri) of Bethany, Oklahoma. and Cheryl R. Hooper (Timothy) of Yukon, Oklahoma.; his sisters, Barbara Allison (Gary) of Campbell, Joan Estes of Kennett and Donna Kay Akers of Kennett; his grandchildren, Jack Hooper (Madeline), Natalie Leggett (Austin) and Ella Grace Avants; and his great grandchildren, Henry Hooper, Dixie Grace Hooper and Charlie "Girl" Leggett.

Memorial may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or VFW at Large.
