He was predeceased by: his siblings, John May and Lillie May. He is survived by: his spouse Glendella Gossett May; his children, James H. May III (Carrie) of Cape Girardeau, Sharlet Giltner (Roger) of Brookport and Amanda Ponder (Bill) of Kelso, Missouri; his sister Susan Mullen (Gary) of Steelville, Missouri; his grandchildren, Roger Giltner, Jr., Joshua Giltner (Carly), Katelin May, James H. May IV, Nylik Dunn, Olivia Ponder and Ella Ponder; and his great grandchildren, Sawyer Caneer and Annalie Giltner.
