Jonas Byers Obituary

We are sad to announce that on February 7, 2025, at the age of 89, Jonas Byers (Kansas City, Missouri), born in Cleveland, Arkansas passed away. He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred C. Byers and Emma Byers (Morton); his siblings, Luther, Jesse, Moses, Roosevelt, Joe, Scipio, Hurley, Malendy, Lusendy, Lillie, Icie and Gracie; and his wife Neller Jean Byers (Brown).

He is survived by: his daughters, Deborah Lewis (Ronald), Sherry Byers and Vivian E Goldmon (Curtis); his grandchildren, Curtis III and Courtney Goldmon; his great grandchildren, Amariana, August and Aurielle; his stepgranddaughter Shayla Goldmon; his daughter Doris Lee; and his sisters, Viola Garlington of Denver, CO and Rosie Holloway of Cincinnati, OH. He is also survived by his family, not just his immediate family but also his parents and siblings.

Visitation was held on Saturday, February 15th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Metropolitan A. M. E. Zion Church (2828 Prospect Ave, Kansas City, MO 64128). A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 15th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. Due to COVID in 2020 the outings were halted, however, in December 2024 the tradition began again.
