It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Vernon Pershing Mathena of Kahoka, Missouri, who passed away on May 8, 2023, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Mathena and Mary Agnes Peterson Mathena; his daughter Melissa Gordon; and his siblings, Wilma Hatfield and Clifford Mathena.
He is survived by: his son-in-law Patrick Gordon of Viola, IL; his granddaughter Amanda Gordon (Anthony Taylor) of Viola, IL; his great grandchild Luna Diana Taylor of Viola, IL; and his siblings, Mary Ruth, William Mathena (Margaret) of Moline, IL and Ray Dean Mathena (Connie) of Springfield. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
