It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Lavonne Jill Shinn of Kahoka, Missouri, born in Fairfield, Iowa, who passed away on July 1, 2023, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Harold Kenneth Leathers and Leantha Elizabeth Dawkins (Rice); her daughter Martha Ellen Lapsley; her granddaughter Sydney JoAnne Owens; her siblings, Richard, Gary Dawkins, Bruce and Pam Leathers; and her uncle Paul Rice.
She is survived by: her former husbands, Robert James Lapsley and Paul Kenneth Shinn; her children, Robert Martin Lapsley (Pat) of Wooster, OH, Paul Kent Lapsley, West, Thomas Brent Lapsley (Cheryle) of Tomball, TX, Anne Elizabeth Lapsley of Houston, TX, Karen Sue Lapsley-Owens of Houston, TX, James Alan Lapsley of Houston, TX, John David Lapsley (Molly) of Kahoka, MO, Carol Elaine Lapsley of Houston, TX, Joseph Anthony Lapsley of Houston, TX, Shirley Jean Lapsley Holcomb (Jack) of Anna, TX, Frederick Wayne Shinn of Wayland, MO and Darla Marie Shinn of Cozumel, QR; and her half-sister Barbara Downey of Santa Barbara, CA.. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren.
Jill was a faithful advocate for the economically disadvantaged and is remembered for her unwavering commitment and influential contributions to social justice for well over 50 years.
