Kevin was born October 31, 1969 in Joplin, MO to Benjamin and Sue (Garber) Bates. He had lived in the Joplin area his whole life and graduated from Joplin High School class of 1988. He served in the U.S. Navy during Persian Gulf and had worked for Butterball Manufacturing in Carthage, MO.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Jeff Bates.

Survivors include his wife Lori Lynn Bates of Quapaw, OK, 1 son, Anthony Bates and wife Kacey of Quapaw, OK, 4 daughters, Melissa Shearer of Joplin, MO, Amber Patrick and husband Sheldon of Joplin, MO, Aimee Aletano of Lee Summit, MO and Abigail Kimbrough of Joplin, MO, 2 brothers, Mark Bates of California and Ben Bates of Springfield, MO, 1 sister, Jennifer Waterman of Joplin, MO and 4 granddaughters and 5 grandsons.

No services are planned at this time. Arrangements were placed in the care of Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, OK.
