He was predeceased by: his parents, John Gates and Hazel Gates (Rhodes); his son Greg Gates; and his brothers, Denny and Gary Gates.
He is survived by: his wife Judy Gates (Thatcher); his children, Sharon Rowe (Mike) and Kim Tyree (Fred); his grandchildren, Tresha, Tracy, Brittani and Kelsie; his great grandchildren, Adalie and Mekhi; and his siblings, Jaydee Gates and Judy Friend.
Visitation was held on Monday, April 21st 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Parker Mortuary (1502 S Joplin Ave, Joplin, MO 64804). A graveside service was held on Monday, April 21st 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery (415 N St Louis Ave, Joplin, MO 64802).
