He was predeceased by: his parents, Delbert Griffith and Christina Edith Essen (Stone); his siblings, Louis Essen (Kathy) of Omaha, Delbert G. Essen, Jr. of Benton, Ronald Essen "Bubby" of Illinois, David Novack of St. Charles and Joyce Teal (James) of Marble Hill, Missouri; his son Dennis Essen; his grandson William Brown; and his siblings, Benard Essen, Barbara Williams and Kay Asher.
He is survived by: his wife Jeannette; his son Joe Essen (Ann) of Jefferson City; and his grandchildren, Sean Essen (Crystal), Deborah Ford (Adam), Rebecca Essen and Jonathan Essen (Beth). He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.
