He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde H. Nichols and Edna A. Nichols (Chrisman); his brother Clyde Nichols, Jr.; and his son-in-law Jim Switzer. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Nichols; his children, Jim Nichols (Diana) of Camdenton and Sharron Switzer of Jefferson City; his grandsons, Douglas Switzer (Lorna), Jeffrey Switzer (Michelle), Jeremy Nichols (Dani), Joshua Nichols and Max Wheeler (Kimi); his great grandchildren, Cedric Switzer, Alex Switzer, Tyler Turner, Briana Turner, Hunter Nichols, Abigail Switzer, Caleb Switzer and Crystal Wheeler; and his great great grandchild Azzy Wheeler. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.
