Wilmer Lee Barton Obituary
Paul Wilmer Lee Barton, born March 12, 1936, to Madieth and Marvin Barton in Centerville, MO, passed away on June 15th, 2024 at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 3 days. Wilmer, as he was affectionately known, lived a full and meaningful life dedicated to his family and community.
On July 4, 1963, Wilmer married the love of his life, Lillian Joan Helms. Their union was blessed with seven children: Judy (Lew) Gill, Bill (Sherri) Barton, Paul (Amy) Barton, John (Jenni) Barton, Robert (Dawn) Barton, Lavinia (David) Fudge, and Joanna Barton. Wilmer's love for his family was evident in everything he did, and his legacy continues through his surviving children, 21 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
Wilmer was a man of many passions. He had a particular fondness for watching western TV shows, where he could often be found enjoying classics that transported him to another time. He also loved working on lawnmowers, a hobby that combined his mechanical skills and his love for being outdoors.
Wilmer was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lillian, his daughter Judy, his son Paul, six great-grandchildren, his six brothers Charles, Elmer (Rose), James (Virginia), Larry (Eva), Levi (Jean), Jerry, and his sister Evelyn (Jim). He is survived by his sisters Doris (Charlie) Criteser, Linda (Jim) Helms, Ruth (Dale) Dell, and his brother Lawrence (Donna) Barton.
Wilmer's life was characterized by his unwavering dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and his kind heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, beginning at 11:00 am from the Cole Family Funeral Home in Ironton.
Visitation for friends and family to gather will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, beginning at 5:00 pm and lasting until 8:00 pm from the Cole Family Funeral Home.
Interment will follow the services in the Huff Cemetery in Annapolis, MO.
