He was predeceased by: his parents, D. J. Hughes and Norma Ruth Hughes (Mathews); and his brother John G. Hughes. He is survived by: his wife Donna Hughes (Ruby); his daughters, Allison McAtee (Jeremiah) and Kayla Whelehon (Corey); and his grandchildren, Otto McAtee and Eleanora Whelehon.

Memorials may be directed to Park Hills Lions Club in honor of David. The family greatly appreciates donations made to these charities in David Alan Hughes 's name.
