He was predeceased by: his parents, Abe Detel and Velma Detel; his siblings, Sondra Dunnam, Sonny Detel and Sheila Combs; and his brother-in-law Dennis Lafal.
He is survived by: his pets, Muggsy, Ruby and Mitzi; his wife Kimberly Detel; his children, Justin and Krista Detel; his siblings, Judy Lafal, Victor Detel and John; his sister-in-law Trena Hallavant; his brother Shawn; and his sisters-in-law, Delisa Borchert and Pamela Altabas. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
