“Dear Doris, you were the better half of "Obadiah Chetavinsky," for sure. These two wonderful people, together with Charlie and Ethel Graham, took me under their wings when I, a new sailor in Uncle Sam's Navy in 1970, was stationed in Alameda, CA. I was a long way from home and definitely not used to the separation. These fine folks brought me into their homes when my ship was in port. They became surrogate parents, a role they magnified with kindness and generosity. I will never forget them.”
