He was predeceased by: his parents, Burnie Self Hassell and Fern Dearing (Kitchen); and his granddaughter Alissa Deanna Goedecke Blanton. He is survived by: his girlfriend Carol Bradley of Imperial; his sons, Danny Steven Hassell (Connie) of Festus and Nicholas Matthew Hassell (Stacie) of Kirkwood; his stepson Trevor Smith (Sondra) of Arizona; his daughter Cherrie Lynn Doyen of New Mexico; his stepbrother John Dearing of DeSoto; his sisters, Sue Templeton of Richmond Heights and Judith Murphy of Florida; and his grandchildren, Luke Steven Hassell, Ashley Paige Hassell, Taylor Matthew Hassell, Alexa Marilyn Brush (Addison), Stefan Michael Hassell, Danielle Dearing, Emily Starke, Charlie Daniel Smith and Kira Smith. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
