It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Hazel Mae Mayes of Hunnewell, Missouri, who passed away on January 30, 2025, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, John Lee Watson and Florence Marie Gosney; her husband Jim Mayes; her daughter Emma Marie "Sis" Mayes; her grandson James Clayton Mayes; and her daughter-in-law Catherine Marie Mayes.
She is survived by: her sons, Tom of Hunnewell, Missouri and Sam Mayes of Hunnewell, Missouri; her siblings, David Watson of Paris, Missouri, Maxine Baldwin of Olathe and Doris Kennison of Monroe City, Missouri.; and her grandchildren, Alicia Black (Hank), Heather Wisdom (Brian), Robbie Johnson (Amber), Jeff Johnson (Amanda) and Erin Johnson. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, February 6th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Garner Funeral Chapel (315 N Vine St, Monroe City, MO 63456). A funeral service was held on Thursday, February 6th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Neighbors Helping Neighbors of Shelby County, honoring Hazel's spirit of kindness and generosity.
