He was predeceased by: his parents, William Smith and Susie Mae Crowley Smith. He is survived by: his spouse Bobbie J. Gates; his siblings, Suzette Twiggs, Larry Smith, Isaac Smith and Freddie Lee Smith; his children, Lavoris Taylor, James Gates, Betty Gates, Naomi Gates, Alberta Seals (John), Celoris Gates, Lula Mae Gates and Anthony Gates; his close friends, Cornelius, Young and Cory Rowe; and his nephew Demetrik Smith. He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces nephews and other friends and relatives.
