He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruth Elizabeth Schmidt (Caudle) and Edwin Phillip Schmidt, Sr.; and his brothers, Edwin Schmidt, Jr. and George Schmidt. He is survived by: his wife Frances Allie Schmidt (Pruitt) of Hillsboro; his children, Valerie Wagner of Festus, Todd Schmidt (Derinda) of Festus and Vicki Main of St. Louis; his brother William Schmidt (Rose) of Sullivan; his grandchildren, Adam Wagner, Courtney Wagner, Aaron Schmidt, Brandon Schmidt, Matthew Spezia, Mark Spezia and Raymond Welsch; and his great grandchild Alexis Wagner. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives, and many dear friends.
