Lila M. Young Obituary
Lila Mae Young was born on January 23, 1939 on the family farm, the daughter of William Edgar Radley and Lillian Mae (Harris) Radley.
She graduated from Oregon High School, class of 1957. Following graduation, she attended Nebraska Christian College in Norfolk, NE for a year and then signed on with Trans-Canada Airlines stationed out of Chicago.
She came back to Northwest Missouri to marry Bob Gibson in August of 1959 and shortly thereafter relocated to the farming community of Higginsville, MO, where she took great pride in raising five children and in being a farm wife. She was a committed room mother at school, 4-H leader in the community and a vacation Bible school teacher and youth leader at church. She was very active in a variety of local Christian churches where she would serve as needed.
While she had children at home, she was a part time school bus driver and after their graduation, she completed 20 years as a rural mail carrier.
She was divorced from Bob in 1989 and then remarried in 1991 to Paul Young, a teacher with Lex LaRayVoTech School.
Lila was a lifelong lover of the outdoors, mowing grass, tractors, cows, horses, kittens, blue grass music, travel, and always, her children and grandchildren.
Lila passed away on October 10, 2022 in the kitchen of her family farm in Higginsville at the age of 83, just the way she wanted, never having spent a day in the nursing home, still in control of the car keys, and planning a daily trip in town to eat lunch at the local cafe.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Edgar; a sister, Barbara; and her daughter, Dana George.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Young of Butler, Missouri, her brother, William Edgar "Junior" Radley, Jr. of Oregon, MO; her daughter, Dawn Batteiger (and Eric) of Colorado Springs, CO; her sons, Douglas Gibson (and Jill) of Raymore, Missouri, Derry Gibson (and Kelly) of Drexel, Missouri, and Denton Gibson (and Caroline) of Crocker, Missouri; son-in-law, Bob George of Carthage, MO; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
