He is survived by: his wife Lawanda Cates; his children, Tijuanda Cates (Mike Lunceford) of Fort Worth, TX, Eva Jean Cates Bumpass of Roxboro and Jeffery Cates of Roxboro; his grandsons, Akeem Cates of Roxboro and Shaun Cates of Roxboro; his sisters, Willie Mae Cates of Durham, NC and Frances "Frankie" Wood of Washington, DC; and his sisters-in-law, Joyce Alexander Watts (Clazell) of Michigan, Malinda Fuller of Michigan and Mekessia Jackson (Lataun) of Hayti, MO. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
