He was predeceased by: his parents, Neil Doss and Irene Doss (Franklin); his sister Bertha Flewelling; and his sister-in-law Viki Doss. He is survived by: his wife Sarah Francis Bylieu; his son James "Jim" Edward Doss (Crystal) of Hardin; his siblings, Carl Doss, David Doss of Richmond, Kenny Doss of Norborne, Tom Doss (Maxine) of Richmond, Johnny Doss and Maxine Schreckhise; his grandchildren, Emily Thaller (Jordan) and Hunter Doss; and his great grandchildren, Paisley Thaller and Samuel Thaller.
