He was predeceased by: his parents, Philip Sylvester Whiston and Phyllis Jean Williams Whiston; his wife Cindy Potterfield; his son Daniel Stephen Whiston; and his brother-in-law Terry Sehlke.
He is survived by: his sisters, Cecelia Whiston Sehlke of Keytesville, MO and Rita Whiston Dorsey (Frank) of Palmyra, MO; and his grandchild Kaden Michael Whiston. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
