He was predeceased by: his parents, Niol Orris Thornton and Emma Mae Cummings Thornton; and his sister Emma Wilson. He is survived by: his wife Dolores French; his son Dr. James L. Thornton (Sandy) of Hannibal, MO; his grandchildren, Kelsi Brooke Pio (Jeff) of Wellsville, KS and Brittany Ann Jonker (Brad) of Gardner, KS; his great grandchildren, Weston Pio, Brooklyn Pio, Casen Pio, Harlee Jonker and Regan Jonker; and his siblings, Rev. Devere Thornton (Diana) of Chili, WI and Flora Packard of Crandon, WI. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mid America Nazarene University Thornton Family Scholarship.
