He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles H. Gaines and Esther O. Gaines (Anderson); his son Clayton Gaines; his sister Leona McCarter (Roy); his daughter-in-law Linda Gaines; and his brother-in-law Robert Easterday.

He is survived by: his wife Martha Jean Brewer; his children, Mark Gaines of Breckenridge, MO, Chuck Gaines (Debbie), Hamilton and Carol Henderson (Doug); his daughter-in-law Peggy Gaines; and his sister Mary Easterday of Overland Park, KS.. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
