He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer Ellis and Genieve Ellis (Cowell); and his former wife Twila Woods. He is survived by: his wife Laura Ellis (Dowler); his sons, Perry Ellis (Juanita), Jerry Ellis (Hollee) and Jim Ellis (Debbie); his stepsons, Kevin Rook, Keith Rook, Kolby Rook and Kanin Rook; his sister Carolyn Price; and his grandchildren, Perry Glenn, Ashalyn, Sam, Adam, William, Jarek, Jonathan, Nathaniel, Madilyn, Gannon, Gunnar and Garren. He is also survived by fourteen step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Lodge #87 A.F. & A.M. or to the Dade County Men's Civic Club.
