He was predeceased by: his parents, John Sterling and Shirley Thornton Johnson; and his brother Larry Joe Johnson. He is survived by: his son Lucas Johnson of Kansas City. He is also survived by two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to Big Bend Retreat in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
