He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Franklin Smith and Ruby Lee Smith (Gordon); his wife Carol Ann Smith; and his siblings, Alvin Smith, Freddy Smith, Bennie Eugene Smith, Patty Hedge, Freda Honeycutt and Juanita Pope.

He is survived by: his children, Brandon Gordon and Summer Wheatley; and his brother Roger "Dale" Smith (Paula) of Trinidad. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
