She was predeceased by: her parents, Harve Messenger and Alta Messenger (Mitchell); her husband James Lewis Pettit (Jim); and her siblings, Willie McVey, Mary McDaniel, Gynith Sossamon and Kemett Messenger.
She is survived by: her children, Pam Johnson (Fred), Gregg Pettit and Marsha Pettit; her granddaughters, Neely Johnson and Holly Johnson; and her great grandchild Skylar Harris. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
