He was predeceased by: his child James; and his sibling Grace Ray. He is survived by: his spouse Vernice Jung; his children, Nancy Smolak (Paul), Kathryn Kinder (Charles) and Thomas; his grandchildren, Katie Smolak, Michael, Molly, Matthew Kinder and Stephen Jung; and his siblings, Janet Freeman, Robert, Cletus, Henry Gene Jung and Joyce Johnston.
